Cupping Therapy | Ancient Chinese Tradition

Pumpkin has been sick for days.  Yesterday morning I looked into his eyes when he woke up to see red and drippy infected eyes staring back at me.  I’ve never seen him look this bad.  I knew it was really bad when he agreed to see a doctor (this macho guy rarely sees one).  We knew we wouldn’t be happy to walk out of any old doctors’ office carrying a slip of paper with a written prescription of the latest antibiotic.  So we sought out a holistic doctor instead.  We found Acupuncture and Cupping Therapy, ancient Chinese Healing Traditions.

Dr. Vincent Xie has a practice of Ancient Chinese Traditions, which includes acupuncture, cupping therapy, and herbs.  I’ve never seen these practices done before… so I excitedly whipped out my iphone without asking Dr. Xie, hovered, and snapped away.  Pretty soon, he was going very slow, to make sure I could capture my shots :-).

As you can see in the picture above, he uses an alcohol soaked cotton ball lit on fire to create heat inside the glass cup, which causes the suction.  (Suction evidenced by the purple spots all over my honey’s back!)  He got so close to Mark’s skin with the fire, it made me so tense.  Mark swore it didn’t hurt.

The idea is for the suction action to draw out the impurities in the body (from food preservatives, chemicals, metals, etc.)  I could see his back scrunch up inside the cup immediately after it was placed.

Then there was acupuncture…

Yikes… right in his neck!

And also in his hands…

The doctor left Mark like that for about 25 minutes, coming in twice to stimulate (twist) the needles.  I pretty much watched in horror.  But Mark didn’t flinch an inch when Dr. Xie was placing them or twisting them – and swears he didn’t even feel them.

While the doctor was twisting, I asked him if these treatments were still the main focus of doctors’ practices in China.

“Yes,” he said.

That made me happy.  I don’t know why.  Maybe it’s just nice to know that some things never change.  Or that it gave me a feeling of validation for these practices mostly overlooked in America.  Or that pharmacy drug peddling  isn’t corrupting medicine there.

After the treatments, Dr. Xie gave Mark two bottles of different herbs to take for the flu symptoms.  And then we were done.  We walked out wondering what the next few hours and days would bring.  Hopefully, at least, a less purple back…

But, truly, I want to be a believer that there are natural alternatives to chemically laced drugs that really do long-term damage to people.  It really is depressing to hear commercial after commercial promote these ridiculous prescriptions that may cause suicide or may cause anal leakage. Really?  Is that what we want?  Is that what we’re buying?  I don’t downplay all prescriptions – Mark would be in a wheelchair if he didn’t take his gout prescriptions from time-to-time (we’ve been able to ween him off quite a bit).

This morning, I looked into Pumpkin’s eyes when he woke up to see clear whites around his eyeballs!  It felt good.  I rubbed my hand over his purple circles (now just slightly red) and thanked them :-)  We’re keeping our fingers crossed that he continues to get better.

P.S.  I wonder if he’ll mind all these pictures of him here?  ;-)

Amalgam Dental Revision

Yesterday I had my second and final visit to get my amalgam teeth fillings taken out and replaced with a compatible material.  That first step is done, and I’m SO glad, but I’m not fooling myself… I know there are months and possibly years of mercury detox ahead of me.  This picture is of me – fully prepped (sans oxygen in this picture) for removal from my mouth of one of the most hazardous materials known to man… mercury.

There is a huge list of mercury poisoning symptoms.  Mine include:

  • extreme irritability
  • indecision
  • memory loss
  • inability to concentrate
  • chronic fatigue
  • insomnia
  • withdrawal
  • numbness in limbs
  • metallic taste and metallic smelling hair at times
  • chronic dizziness/nausea
  • low blood pressure
  • heart murmur (benign)
  • poor immune response
  • candida overgrowth
  • chronic headaches
  • kidney infection
  • trouble conceiving and miscarriage
  • in previous years, persistent depression

…to name a few.  By far, the worst thing I’ve struggled with since I was in my late teens is chronic fatigue – it’s debilitating.  It’s not normal and I always knew there was something ‘wrong’ with me, though no doctor could ever find anything abnormal.  Over the years I’ve prayed for answers and my journey has led me here.  You can read more about this in my first post about safe amalgam removal.

There are many safety precautions that must be taken during the removal process.  In the picture you will see the blue rubber dam over my mouth with only my teeth poking through, to protect me from any falling mercury as it is chunked out of my teeth.  You can also see that I am mostly covered up, for similar protection, and the big white vacuum hose under my chin to suck out the mercury vapors being released into three levels of filtration.  In the room is also a negative ion generator.

I had a separate oxygen supply, took large doses of liquid vitamin C before and after, as well as activated charcoal.  Removal is done is quadrants, with highest charged quadrants taken out first.  (I had seven fillings total.)

The reason for such precautions is because many people get their amalgam fillings removed randomly and end up with serious nervous system diseases.  This is a highly toxic metal that is treated as hazardous waste in dental offices (what is it doing in our mouths???).  And CA proposition 65 requires this warning label in all dental offices:

“WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

It just makes my heart ache to think about mercury poisoning having anything to do with our troubles conceiving and suffering miscarriage(s).  But on the good side, this whole revision and subsequent mercury detoxing could be an answer to that painful life challenge.

First Day After First Part of Dental Revision

I slept fine last night after the first part of my revision.  I wish I could say I woke up feeling full of energy, but as usual, I did not.  I know that it will take time – maybe lots of it.

However, what I have experienced today is a certain ‘calm’ that feels foreign to me.  I love it and hope it’s here to stay.  Whether or not it is a result of my revision is too soon to tell.

When I went to our local health food store to buy raw milk today, I had a nagging feeling to mention to the clerk there that I’m going through Total Dental Revision (getting rid of and replacing all of my amalgam silver fillings).  Feeling kind of dumb, but following my gut, I walked up to him and mentioned it.  I thought I was telling him maybe because he would have a good supplement suggestion – even though I’m following the Huggins Protocol as much as my budget will allow.

He absolutely lit up and said, “Good for you!!  (A moment of pause) Safely, I hope???”  He was glad to know I am following the Huggins safe removal protocol.  Believe it or not, it turns out that he also owns a private nutrition practice and has a focus on Mercury and other heavy metal Detox.  I mean, what are the odds, right?  I love it when I trust my gut.  I love it when God shows me in those little ways all of the time that he is watching out for me.

Needless to say, I’m going to visit him during his ‘practice’ hours.  He helps people through chelation – which is a process of carrying the mercury out of your body safely through a detox process.

I’ve noticed that my nose won’t stop running today.  That and the calm feeling were the two after effects of yesterday.  Any others in the coming days will be documented.

Chronic Fatigue and Safe Amalgam Filling Removal

Since I was in my late teens I’ve suffered with severe chronic fatigue.  Like, I could literally take a three hour nap at any given time, I sleep on average nine hours per night, and wake up feeling like I never went to sleep.  I’m usually foggy-headed, lethargic, and moody.  Recently, I’ve noticed it takes constant effort just to keep my eyes focused.  My reading comprehension is horrible.

Many a doctor’s visit have I left feeling defeated and hopeless.  “Your blood work looks fine.”  “Nothing is wrong with you.”  “There’s nothing we can do.”  I’ve tried different diets, exercises, herbs, vitamins, you name it.  That nap is constantly calling my name.

A few months ago, I came across and watched a documentary called, The Beautiful Truth.  Though it is mostly about an alternative cancer cure, called The Gerson Therapy, there is a segment on Amalgam tooth fillings.  Most of us who have had fillings from the 50s through the 90s, likely have these Amalgam, or Silver, fillings.  These fillings contain mercury in them – one of the most toxic substance known to man.  In this segment, they showed a demonstration of the mercury that is constantly vaporizing into our mouths.  You can view in this clip:

I looked into mercury poisoning further and discovered that all of my symptoms could be related.

Even though I can’t prove that my amalagam fillings are my problem, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that they can’t be good for me.  They are treated as hazardous waste in all dental offices…

Through Dr. Huggins, the leader behind the amalgam free movement, I found a local dentist who practices the Huggins Protocol of safe amalgam removal.  Unfortunately it is a very expensive undertaking to have amalgam fillings removed and replaced, especially if you have 7, like me!  Fortunately, I was able to woo Dr. Partrite with my Internet Marketing skills and we were able to agree on a trade.  I am ever so grateful!!!  I trust that he will be as happy with what we can do for him, as I am with what he is doing for me.

Today I had the first part of my revision :-)

I am ever grateful for answers to prayers and the Lord’s continual guidance and care in my life.  Of course, any positive changes in my health will be documented.
