The Poet

If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda

I’m loving “If You Forget Me” by Pablo Neruda right now.

Listen my audio recording of this poem while you read, here.

If You Forget Me

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

something’s brewing
something deep
something sweet

it excites me
it scares me
it makes me breath quickly
it makes my heart beat fast

it reminds me of who i am
it reminds me of why i’m here

it makes me feel wild and unpredictable
it makes me feel whole and vulnerable

it’s daring
it’s primal
it’s wholesome

it evokes mutual trust and a natural flow
it encourages yin and yang and sets my soul aglow

i am not afraid to give
i am not afraid to ask

Lovers Lips IIW Blind Lovers Lips | a Poem
Every rose is equal parts
blossom and thorn, yet,
most automatically only see
beauty.
What does that say
about love?
If such blind lovers’ lips
Were to greet yours,
would you accept,
or reject them?
What does that say
about you?

My Heart Goes Longing

of one heart, and one soul
all things in common, young and old

to every man according to his need, none that lack
taking no more, not even to fill thy sack

nothing by coercion, or cajole
grace on everyone, grace upon all

a people, a place, Enoch of ancient
a people, a place, a future obtainment

for yonder my heart goes longing
fit for the Lord to dwell; called Zion
